TOPIC: Dolphins Weakest Link?

Dolphins Weakest Link? 9 months ago #1

Among the guys who have some bearing on how the team does, players or coaches, who is our Weakest Link?

Naanee, Clemons, Carroll, Martin, Marshall, someone else?

Naanee hands down.

I think the Jets are going to do everything they can to FORCE Tannehill to throw the ball. They will focus all their attention on stopping Bush and the Dolphins run game. So, with that said, I would have to say that the player who has to step it up this Sunday would be Martin.

In a strange way I am looking forward to these idiots trying to force Tannehill to throw the ball because I want to see what he can do. I think he is going to surprise a lot of people and the Jets, unknowingly, are going to wake the sleeping giant cause an air assault on Sunday.

It's a toss up between Clemons and Marshall for me. Nenne has been a disapointment because he is not active in the passing game but he doesn't really hurt the team and he has actually contributed to some big plays by blocking well. Clemons and Marshall both have been a liability in the passing game. Marshall has not played well IMO and I just seem to always notice his guy making the catch. He at least makes the tackle afterwards though. Clemons being a safety is probably the one who can hurt us the most with the big play.

Its a pick em for the secondary. We stop the run, they throw against us more. We have got to get INTS. to help out our fledgling offense

I would like to see them activate Rishard Mathews this week.. I think he is a big bodied guy that would not get anyones respect on the Jets. He showed in the preseason that he has good hands and I think we will need a big threat outside Bess and Hartline this week.

As for weakest link, I worry about our secondary. Oakland tore us apart, it is hard to believe we held them to 13 points when they had almost 400 yards passing.

naanee hands down,2 games zero catches, and how many drops in the pre-season,sure he had a few blocks but its clear we need another reciever and I dont think he is the guy, time to give some of the young guys a chance, being fuller and r.t have played together maybe he should be givin a chance

I have been wondering where he has been. I thought Philbin was hiding him because he looked like he could emerge as the top receiver, in my opinion. I don't think he has played one down yet.

Naane is a scrub but we can just leave him on the bench and play others. So I dont consider him detrimental. In the future I definitely think we need to find another top talent WR.

To answer your question, I would probably say Clemons or maybe Burnett. Clemons seems to have a problem with bad angles and poor tackling. Burnett just disappears. Against Oaklsnd, Dansby and Misi were always around the ball. Maybe they did not always make a great play but they were active. Burnett was a ghost.

Secondary minus Jones.. If they show up we win the game. As long as Miami doesn't turn the ball over..

A lot of people picking on the secondary. Unfortunately, other than Amerson of NCState, for the 2013 Draft, this is not the best crop of cornerbacks the nation has ever seen....

The secondary is definitely the weakest link IMO. Smith is ok/good and Jones has improved. Marshall is so so. Clemmons on only good in run support. Wilson and Carroll are still projects. Nolan is an unknown, but could start at some point.

I expect the stej to try and spread us out and burn us. Good thing we are stout on the DL and the stej oline has had some issues. Hoping Wake finally starts racking up those sacks.

Our secondary is the weakest area of our defense but I think it has more to do with how good the front 7 is than how bad the back four is. I like Smith and Jones is playing well. I think Wilson and Carol both are showing some potential but have some consistancy problems, understandable with Wilson. Marshall and Clemons are the two that seem to be the biggest problems and I think they might both be gone next year assuming we can upgrade. That being said I don't think the secondary as a whole is as bad as people make them out to be. They do give up a lot of yards but they have shown that they can get 3rd down stops and keep people out of the endzone. They play soft at times giving up the 10 - 20 yard pass but they haven't been giving up the 30 - 40 yard pass every game like they have in years past. I don't think they are a terrible group, I think they are an average group and the biggest problem I have with them is we don't have play makers on that unit, they don't make the interceptions. Although Jones came up with one Sunday. If they can start doing that more frequently this could be a very good defense. The only thing keeping this from being a Great Defense IMO is attitude and identity. We don't have that tough MLB, Play Making Safety or Shut Down Corner that scares defenses. The closest thing we have is Wake but a pass rushing specialist who gets 8-10 sacks a season isn't enough. We need someone else to imerge and I think it has become obvious Dansby is not that guy. Even Wake isn't the same thing as a JT who not only got you 10+ sacks a game but was regularly forcing fumbles, was good for a td or two a season and even got some interceptions. Don't get me wrong I like Wake (A LOT) but you know how many forced fumbles he had last season? The same number of fumble recovers he has over his career Zero. We are missing guys on defense who can shift momentum, that are game changers. The guy that when you need the defense to get a stop you just expect him to come up with a play. We haven't had that since JT and Zach and while this defense is good and getting better, until we get that player or one develops into that role we will never be great.

IMO I really liked Hogan, he seemed like a "gamer" that shouldn't have been cut.. he had good hands (except for his last game, LOL) and an uncanny ability to get open, as well as "toughness" and being "fearless" yet it must have not been enough for the coaching staff... WHY? Who knows? But Nanee is a waste and the rest of the bench is questionable...

But have to agree, our weakest link is without any doubt the secondary... no "quick-fix" there at all, we are screwed until next years draft...

Sometimes it's a blessing to HAVE A WEAK LINK so you know what the opposition will be looking to exploit...

That just means everyone else needs to step it up a notch in the tough games, and they are all tough games, LOL
