The season-ending injury suffered by defensive end Phillip Merling and sudden retirement of Jason Ferguson gave Dolphins general manager a little more work than usual last week.
Ireland moved quickly to fill both roster spots, signing 10-year veteran Marques Douglas on Friday to replace Merling, and signing journeyman nose tackle Montavious Stanley over the weekend, according to a tweet by Stanley’s agent, Ralph Cindrich.

Stanley has played in 33 games with six starts in four seasons, and last year had 20 tackles, a sack and three passes knocked down in 15 games with the Jaguars. He was drafted by the UFL’s Omaha Nighthawks in the offseason
Stanley, who stands 6-foot-2 and 302 pounds, will compete with Paul Soliai, Ryan Baker, and undrafted rookie Travis Ivey to backup starting nose tackle Randy Starks.
