When looking into the Dolphins free agency situation, the man in charge is Dolphins General Manger Jeff Ireland. With free agency coming up, and the draft combine underway, Ireland talked to reporters in Indianapolis on the teams off season intentions. In regards to how the Dolphins will manage their potential free agents, Ireland quoted ” Well in terms of our free agents, were going to address every player that is a free agent.” However Ireland gave little insight on negotiations between these free agents.
When talking at the combine, many of the questions focused on Dolphins potential free agents. Ireland commented on the dependency and skill-set of Reggie Bush, saying “You’d love to have his skill set on the football team. I mean Reggie has a unique set of skill sets. He’s been a receiver, he’s been a primary running back. So I definitely see a role for that type of skill set.” Again although Ireland has not given any insight on negotiations, it seems the organization is more optimistic for the resigning of Bush than in previous weeks.
Ireland also indicated a likeliness of using the franchise tag this off season, and has a pretty good idea of who it will be used on. Although Ireland never clearly specified who it would be used on, it seems Pro Bowl defensive tackle Randy Starks would be a good candidate for the franchise tag.
With the off season quickly becoming heated with the NFL draft combine, free agency, and draft, the next few weeks will be big for the Dolphins organization. Resigning skilled and veteran players may be the biggest move the Dolphins make this off season.
